She does it so beautifully and seamlessly that you can hardly notice. Holly Black does not mess up the interchanging of these three sides in anyway in my opinion. Which includes things about Carden’s past, his feelings during the trilogy (and a bit about what made him do things during it), as well as a glimpse into their “present” in the series. ![]() Throughout the book we get a bit of everything. Nor was I expecting the AMAZING illustrations from Rovina Cai! What I was NOT expecting was this beautiful, extravagant, alluring piece of work. 1 New York Times bestselling author, Holly Black reveals a deeper look into the dramatic life of Elfhame’s enigmatic high king, Cardan. Before he was a cruel prince or a wicked king, he was a faerie child with a heart of stone. Once upon a time, there was a boy with a wicked tongue. Or a point of view from Carden retelling the story we already know with his special side of things. An irresistible return to the captivating world of Elfhame. At first I thought it would be just a point of view from Carden on either the future as Jude as his Queen. ![]() ![]() I was so excited when Holly Black first mentioned this addition to the Folk of the Air series way back when. ![]()
